Colorado State University’s Field Hockey team is a sport club. Sport clubs are organizations that give students the opportunity to play their favorite sport at a competitive level. The main differences between a Division I (NCAA) program and a sport club team is there is no formal recruiting and they do not have full time coaches. As a sport club, the team receives a limited annual budget from student fee allocations and generates most of their operating budget from dues and fund raising activities. Participating on a sport club team is a good way to keep that competitive edge and have fun at the same time. If you would like to know more about our sport clubs here at Colorado State University, please contact Aaron Harris, at (970) 491-2116.

Field Hockey at CSU is a coed program and has been in existence since 1997. In 1999 the Field Hockey team took second place at the Rocky Mountain Invitational Tournament. And from 2000-2003 we have placed in the top six during the Tucson Tournament with a third place in 2003, and consistently beat CU. Each year about 20-25 students tryout in the fall semester. Although our club is competitive we welcome new comers to the game, so we do not cut anyone. Fall is our major season with three practices a weeks in the evenings, about two hours apiece, with games during the weekends. During the off-season we continue to play every Saturday morning with the community and hold scrimmages twice during the week.

Although we do not belong to a specific league we do play other clubs including; Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs as well as teams from Arizona, New Mexico and California. A majority of our games will be played at Denver University’s turf field, only an hour away. Each year we go to two tournaments, one in New Mexico and one in Arizona. During the summer, the last week in May, we also send a group to the California Cup. The dues to participate are $65, which is paid in the fall semester. A deposit of $35 will be needed for the uniform. The club can provide beginner players with equipment if needed.
